DARK CARNIVAL. Inscribed by the Author.
Sauk City: Arkham House, 1947. First Edition (& 1st printing). Octavo, original black cloth lettered in gilt on spine panel. 3,112 copies printed. 313 pp. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper " For Ron Rentz - A Cooling Book For A Warm Night - And My Warmest Good Wishes From Ray Bradbury / May 4, 1952". Bookplate of Ronald D. Rentz (with artwork by Hannes Bok) on front pastedown. Ron Rentz was an early SF fan based in Hartford, CT, he was the founder of the Conn. SF League. A very bright clean copy, nearly fine, in quite a nice dust jacket which shows minimal rubbing (copies received from Arkham House "new in the shipping box" generally showed rubbing to the black printing on the front panel & spine). There are some small stains to the rear panel, a 3/4 inch closed tear to the top edge of the rear panel and another of similar length to the top edge of the front panel; the spine tips are reinforced with a small piece of tape and the outside edges of the tape have been coloured black to match the jacket. Overall, a very good jacket on a very nice copy with a lovely early inscription by Bradbury to an early SF fan. Housed in a custom red cloth slipcase. Item #314683
