STRANGE SHADOWS. The Uncollected Fiction of Clark Ashton Smith.
New York, Westport, Connecticut, London: Greenwood Press, [1989]. First Edition (& 1st printing). Octavo, original green cloth lettered in white. 281 pp., frontispiece portrait of Smith in his cabin. Issued as #36 in The Contributions to the Study of Science Fiction and Fantasy Series. Loosely laid into this copy is a modern print of a photograph of CAS, taken around the age of 19, showing him holding his first book, THE STAR-TREADER AND OTHER POEMS. The print was supplied by Smith's friend RAH Hoffman to Steve Behrends when he was editing STRANGE SHADOWS; the original intention was to use this print as the frontispiece for the volume, but a different image of Smith holding up a candle in his cabin to illuminate a bookcase and several of his paintings above it was used. Light foxing to top page edges, a near fine copy without dust jacket, as issued. Item #314511
