A nice clean Very Good copy in the original colour pictorial dust jacket, lightly worn at edges, ragged tear with no loss to rear panel repaired on the verso with old tape. Item #314407

¶ Charles William Holliday was born in London, England in 1870. He left home at the age of 16 and went to sea, sailing around the Horn to San Francisco, then moving to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia in 1889 where he took up ranching. He was also a professional photographer, working in Enderby, Vernon, and Armstrong. He retired in 1934 and took up painting. He moved to Victoria in 1937, where he wrote THE VALLEY OF YOUTH.

His paintings were exhibited in the annual B.C. Artists exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery from 1932 to 1937, he also had a solo exhibition there of "watercolours of the BC interior" in 1937. He exhibited his work at the Canadian Pacific Exhibition in Vancouver in 1934, and with the Island Arts and Crafts Society in 1937, 1940, and 1941.
