Original maroon cloth, gilt lettering and publisher's device on spine, gilt border to front panel, rear panel bordered in blind, decorated endpapers. Octavo, 387 pp + 32 pp publisher's catalogue bound in at rear; frontispiece with tissue guard, 75 sketches and photographs by the authors, folding map of The South-Eastern Portion of British Columbia bound in. Issued as a volume in the Silver Library. Originally published in 1888 with reprints in 1899, this "New Edition" bears the note "The rapid changes which are taking place in the western part of Canada have made it advisable to supplement the original matter in these pages by additional information. This has, whenever practical, been obtained and added to the present edition, so as to keep it as far as possible level with the march of events." The main event which the authors are likely referring to would have been the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railroad to Vancouver in 1887 and the beginning of the CPR "opening up the West". Small bookseller's ticket on lower front paste-down (Gilbert & Field, Booksellers, 67 Moorgate Street, London, E.C); some small stains, folding map in nice condition. Light wear / rubbing to edges of the binding. A sound, attractive copy. Item #314390
