Horsman Varley; black & white plates and text illustrations throughout. List of artists. Bibliography. Index. This copy is specially signed by William Colgate on the title page. Previous owner's name stamp on front paste-down endaper, some wear to cloth along the bottom edges, a Very Good copy, in the original pictorial dust jacket designed by Thoreau MacDonald. The jacket has some light wear at the edges and a fair bit of mostly unnecessary internal tape reinforcement on the folds. Very uncommon Signed. Item #314384
¶ William G. Colgate (1882-1971) 's monumental early work on Canadian Art and Artists. With a foreword by painter Charles W. Jefferys, the work is a significant achievement in establishing a complete historical survey of the arts in Canada.
