JAKE STRATTON-KENT'S COPY OF THE TREE OF LIFE By Israel Regardie.
Wellingborough, Northamptonshire: The Aquarian Press, [1978]. Fifth Printing of the Paperback Edition. Octavo, original pictorial wrappers. 284 pp., black & white frontispiece, illustrated with colour plates. Formerly, occultist Jake Stratton-Kent's copy, with his magical name and sigil on the verso of the title page, and with the bookmark from the sale of his books tipped in. Jake has annotated this copy in several places in the margins. There is a bookseller's ticket on the inner rear cover (Sorcerer's Apprentice!). Typical of Jake's books, this volume is quite worn and stained (well used!), a sound, good copy. Item #314344
¶ Jake Stratton-Kent was called "the most notorious necromancer in England", and described himself as a ‘very late Late Pagan.’ His main magical interest was in Goetic Sorcery, along with Aleister Crowley, Thelema and the "English Qaballa". He died on 17th January 2023, having made a significant contribution to the current magical revival. His books were sold off in 2023 by Midian Books, with 95% of them selling almost instantly. THE TREE OF LIFE, SUBTITLED "A Study in Magic", is said to be the most comprehensive introduction available to the numerous, complex, and sometimes obscuremystical writing of Aleister Crowley. Considering Jake's interest and involvement in Thelema, this is a very important copy. An iconic title, a legendary provenance.
