TYPEE: A Peep At Polynesian Life, During a Four Month's Residence in the Valley of the Marqesas.

London: George Routledge & Co., Soho Square, 1850. The Revised Edition, With A Sequel. Small octavo, disbound. Pp: [Title leaf]; [1], 2-222. With a contemporary inscription in ink on the Title Leaf: "For my Little Torment, In the hope of keeping him quiet for an hour / L.C. / Sept 17th 1850". Title leaf and first leaf loose and worn at edges. Text complete. A very scarce edition, and one can hope that the "Little Torment" was amused - but maybe he just ripped the covers off the book and tossed it aside. Item #314267

¶ Later printing, with the sequel "The Story of Toby," not included in the first edition, but included here. This is the first Routledge printing of Typee. BAL does not go into this printing, discussing only the various American and British printings up to 1849.

Price (CAD): $125.00
