Inscription on front free endpaper "To Doris MacLean, Wishing her many happy returns of the day, from Tommy Dagg / Sept. 9th '22. With the bookplate of Doris Lenore MacLean on the inner front cover, a gorgeous image of tall trees, clouds and a distant mountain with a library shelf, lamp and open book below. This is most likely Calgary classical pianist Doris Lenore MacLean (1909 -1985). The illustrations by Sandham are exquisite. Touch of rubbing to spine lettering, a nearly fine copy, bright and astonishingly clean. A beautiful copy of a beautiful book. Item #313955

¶ These papers on early California and the Missions, by the author of "Ramona" which are included in this volume were first published in 1883, and afterwards reprinted with some European travel sketches in 1886, the volume bearing the title "Glimpses of Three Coasts". The California articles are here published separately, with illustrations by Henry Sandham, who visited California with Mrs. Jackson while she was accumulating material for "Ramona. GLIMPSES OF CALIFORNIA was first issued with Sandham's illustrations in 1902; this is an early reprint.
