Octavo, original light green cloth lettered in dark green. 312 pp. + [2] pp ads at rear; frontispiece and three additional inserted black & white plates reproducing photographic stills from the 1926 silent film produced by Famous Players–Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures directed by William Beaudine and starred Thomas Meighan. Pencil inscription on front free endpaper dated Christmas, 1928; slight spine lean, a very good bright copy in the original colour pictorial dust jacket which has two moderate chips mid spine, some chipping at spine head and a few minor short closed edgetears. ¶ A couple undergo hardship homesteading in Alberta, where they are plagued by bad weather and financial woes. THE CANADIAN is based on a 1913 Broadway play, THE LAND OF PROMISE, by W. Somerset Maugham. The film was directed by William Beaudine and starred Thomas Meighan. Meighan had costarred with Billie Burke in a 1917 silent film based on the same story, The Land of Promise. In both films he plays the same part. This film is preserved in the Library of Congress.
