THE HALF-HEARTED.
London: Isbister & Co. Ltd, 15 & 16 Tavistock Street, Covent Garden. 1900. First Edition (& 1st printing). Hardcover. Octavo, original pictorial khaki cloth stamped in black, white & gold, top edges gilt (the first issue binding). 375 pp. A good, sound copy: Ex-lending library label on rear panel partially removed [Harrison's Circulating Library, Ipswich], evidence of labels removed from both front & rear paste-downs, inner hinges lightly cracked, corners soft and cloth a bit worn at the tips, rubbing to covers, small bump at spine head. All of this sounds worse than it really is, a decent enough copy of a very scarce book. John Buchan, as Lord Tweedsmuir, was Governor General of Canada from 1935 until his death in 1940. Very Good. Item #313619
¶ One of the author's early novels, written when he was 24, and the first to be set in the present-day. The first half takes place in Scotland before the disheartened main character travels to northern India where he redeems himself in defence of the Empire.
