All of the Newest & most approved Construction & many of them only recently Patented, Including several of the most useful and important Machines From The Great Exhibition, With Descriptive Letterpress, an Essay on the Steam Engine, and a History of the Railways of Great Britain.
Glasgow, Edinburgh & London: William Mackenzie, [1852]. First Edition (& 1st printing). Oversized Folio, bound in contemporary half brown calf over brown cloth boards, the spine with raised bands with gilt rolls, contrasting leather title label "Cyclopedia Of Machinery", marbled endpapers. Engraved title and dedication leaves, variously paginated, 98 inserted plates (most are double-page spreads, 3 are 4-page spreads). Lacking the portrait frontispiece and the Index calls for 100 plates, several plates are misnumbered in the plate and some numbers are duplicated (but the plate images are different). Some spotting to the cloth, wear and rubbing to the leather binding but holding quite firmly, a very good copy of a very scarce work. Item #313533
