Chromoxylographed illustrations. Issued as a volume in the publisher's "FAIRY MOONBEAM'S SERIES". Ink name "Edna Merchant" to upper edge of front cover. Publisher's advertisement on lower wrapper, with address: 30 Beekman Street. Small splits top and bottom of spine crease; a near fine copy. A beautiful pre-1870 American colour illustrated children's chapbook. Item #313292

"Title, series, and imprint statement transcribed from upper cover of printed wrapper. Series transposed from head of title. "McLoughlin Bros., 30 Beekman Street, New York"--publisher's advertisement, on rear cover of wrapper. The McLoughlin firm was located at 30 Beekman St. between 1863 and April 1870. (Approximate dates based on publisher's address, established from Hearn, M.P. McLoughlin Brothers, Publishers, 1828-1978, p. [6]; and Tebbel, J. Hist. of book pub. in the U.S., v. 1, p. 356). Publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of wrapper includes advertisements for paper dolls and paper furniture. The paper dolls are arranged in four numbered series. The catalogue, List of Toy books manufactured ... by McLoughlin Bros. (New York, 1867) contains listings for these four series, but series one and two are comprised of two subseries; the second subseries of series one and two is not listed in the publisher's advertisement in the issue in hand.
