Large octavo, publisher's original pictorial green cloth over beveled boards, the spine & front panel stamped in gilt and red. vi + 716 pp. This issue contains the entirety of Guy Boothby's tale PHAROS THE EGYPTIAN, serialized in six parts from June to November, 1898. Profusely illustrated by John H. Bacon with 42 illustrations, many of which are full page, plus decorative chapter headings. By comparison, the first book edition, issued by Ward, Lock in 1899, had just 12 illustrations. Minor dust-soiling to covers, slight wear and a few scratches to cloth, a sound, very good copy.
¶ Supernatural fantasy novel. Pharos, a re-animated Egyptian mummy, is a practicing sorceror and black magician who brings a plague down upon 19th century London. An excellent "mummy's revenge" novel, one of the best.
