Description

First edition. Octavo. Black cloth covered boards with gilt titles to spine and a single blind rule on the front cover, in pictorial dust jacket. 223 pages. Publisher's device on title page. Inscribed by Dunsany in his distinctive quill pen on the front free endpaper: "To Manuel Tarshish / wishing him a / happy Christmas. / Dunsany / Dec:10.1949."; later re-inscribed by Tarshish on the same page: "Pre-publication copy from the Author. / Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year / to Franklin V. Spellman. / Manuel Tarshish / 12/25/65." Small corner bumps, front hinge cracking, another copy of the inner dust jacket flap mounted on the front pastedown, ink "property stamp" of Manuel Tarshish on title page and rear free endpaper, small paper chip on rear pastedown. A very good copy in a nice attractive (supplied?) dust jacket which is slightly dust soiled, and has minor rubbing to the edges. A very nice copy with a wonderful provenance.
