Sixth Edition, so stated on the title page. Octavo, original maroon cloth bordered in blind on front & rear panels, spine titled in silver gilt. Brown coated endpapers. 315 pp + 24 page publisher's catalogue bound in at rear. This edition has a frontispiece (by Charles Kerr) and a title page vignette which were not in the First Edition. Small blemish to cloth on front panel, Small 'Ex Libris John Ruyle' ticket on verso of front free endpaper; a fine bright copy.

Collects 10 tales, most of which are weird fantasy. The title story is a "journal of a medical student on an Arctic voyage. Strange cries and spectral appearances end in the captain's death as he pursues a wrath. Based in part on Doyle's own Arctic experiences." . Also included are 'J. Habkuk Jephson's Statement', 'The Great Keinplatz Experiment', 'A Literary Mosaic', 'John Barrington Cowles', & 'The Ring of Thoth', all of which are cited by Bleiler in 'The Guide to Supernatural Fiction', item 550.
