Comments

Two issues, the entire print run of this very short lived, magazine. This magazine is not to be confused with 'Fantastic' magazine, which also began in 1952, and which later changed its name to 'Fantastic Science Fiction'. The first issue was published by 'Super Science Fiction Publications', the second by 'Capitol Stories'. Both issues were edited by Walter Gibson [a.k.a Maxwell Grant, author of 'The Shadow' pulp stories]. Gibson wrote the lead story for each issue under his own name plus a of the few short stories under various pseudonyms. The remaining stories were the work of Edward Burkholder, who had arranged the contract between Gibson and the publisher. The writing is, on the whole, terrible. "...FSF not only lacked literary merit, it did not even, like some pulp magazines, provide a training ground for young writers who were later to make a name for themselves in science fiction... If its stories are worth reading today it is because they provide insight into racist and sexist assumptions that characterized the early fifties." Tymn & Ashley, 'Science Fiction, Fantasy, And Weird Fiction Magazines', 1985.
