Quarto, black cloth titled and decorated in gilt on spine panel, pictorial paper label affixed to front panel. 412 pp. Tipped-in colour frontispiece and 7 additional tipped-in colour plates throughout the text, plus 24 additional full-page black & white plates, numerous head- and tail-pieces, decorated title page and binding design, all by Clarke. A brilliant, fine copy in the original colour pictorial dust jacket which shows very slight rubbing and has a 4 cm long closed tear (no loss, almost invisible) to top edge of front panel. An almost impossibly nice dust jacket on this oversized heavy book; obviously an unread copy. Item #312994
¶ The first edition published by Tudor for these illustrations which first were published in London by Harrap in 1919 (without the color plates); then in New York at Brentano in 1923. Painter, glassmaker and illustrator, Harry Clarke was one of the most important figures of the Arts and Crafts movement in Ireland.
