THE WHITE PEOPLE. With Illustrations by Elizabeth Shippen Green.
New York and London: Harper & Brothers Publishers, [1917]. First Edition (& 1st printing). Octavo, original pictorial tan boards blocked in black on front panel, spine panel lettered in black. [112] pp., frontispiece with tissue guard and three additional full-page black & white plates by Green inserted throughout the text. The correct first printing, with "Published February 1917" and printing code A-R (Jan, 1917) on copyright page. Of several noted states, this is state 3 of the sheets (integral title leaf) and binding B; the first issue title leaf (with errors, uncancelled) is not recorded in any known copy; the second state (revised title-leaf, title leaf a cancel) and the third issue (as here, revised title-leaf, title leaf not a cancel) were likely printed in the order indicated, this tan paper binding is likely slightly later as well. BAL 2125. Small crack to inner rear hinge, light scattered foxing & dust soiling, a very good copy in the original colour pictorial dust jacket, rather roughly chipped and worn, top 1-inch of spine panel lacking. Item #312815
