¶ The "Shady Customers" are the ghosts of Beardsley, Wilde, Dowson, Crackanthorpe and Harland, who meet at Bodley House on Christmas Eve - Bodley House being the old premises of their publisher, John Lane. A literary ghost story. Bertrand Rota (1903-66) was the founder of Bertrand Rota Ltd, Booksellers, who also occupied Bodley House for many years.
