The previous owner, John Ruyle, was an avid Sherlockian who collected Doyle & also wrote dozens of Sherlockian parodies and pastiches, which he hand-printed & published them under his own imprints. Richard Lancelyn Green, generally considered the world's foremost scholar on Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes, amassed the world's largest collection private of Doyleiana; he died in mysterious & curious circumstances in 2004, shortly after attempting to halt the sale of papers from the Conan Doyle estate which were being auctioned by Christie's.
