¶ The author's first published book, first issued by Greening in 1904. A macabre supernatural tale in which the narrator is sent to hell following his suicide and from there back to earth to corrupt the souls of the living. This is an excessively rare edition, which is virtually identical to the Benman's reprint edition; but with the 'Shoe Lane' impint on the title page and 'Published by Shoe Lane Publishing Co. London / Printed in France' at base of final leaf of text. The Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris lists the Benman edition as 1927 and this Shoe Lane Press edition as 1929.
