¶ Rand Holmes, the great underground cartoonist who left city life in Vancouver in 1982 to live a rural existence on Lasqueti island, one of the Gulf Islands of the Salish Sea in British Columbia, an island without power lines or car ferries. This is a local production that Holmes has contributed artwork towards, and it is rare - Lasqueti island is the island next door to Hornby Island, where we live, and this is the very first copy of this book that I have ever encountered - and I've lived here for 20 years. Wikipedia's blurb is fairly accurate: Randolph Holton Holmes (February 22, 1942 - March 15, 2002) was a Canadian artist and illustrator probably best known for his work in underground comix. His work was of a higher level of quality than was seen elsewhere in the field, and is considered comparable to such creations as Gilbert Shelton's 'The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers' and Robert Crumb's 'Mr. Natural'.
