¶ An excellent and highly-rated collection of Antiquarian ghost stories in the tradition of M.R. James. Munby worked in the antiquarian book trade with Bernard Quaritch, Limited (1935–37) and Sotheby & Company (1937–39, 1945–47), and was later librarian at King's College, Cambridge. He was a world-renowned authority on ancient books, libraries, and bibliography. Many of the stories in THE ALABASTER HAND involve antiquarian books and manuscripts. The two bookplates show an interesting provenance: the earliest is that of David J. Hall (1947-2015), former Deputy Librarian at Cambridge University; the later plate is that of Liam Sims, a Rare Book Librarian, also at Cambridge. Today, the reading room of the Rare Books Department at Cambridge University Library is called ‘The Munby Rare Books Room.’.
