Autograph Letter Signed. One octavo sheet folded to make four pages, the text occupies two pages. Dated July 16, 1935, approximately 115 words, printed return address "L'Abri, New Rd., Worthing Rd., Horsham, Sussex". Accompanied by the original mailing with a cancelled Three Halfpenny George V stamp, postmarked July 17, 1935, addressed to Mr. E.H. Visiak, 38 Rutland Park Mansions, London N.W. 2. "Dear Mr. Visiak, I was, you may be sure, delighted to see that you supported an application made by a fond young poet, John Galsworth, to Mr. Ramsay Macdonald to grant me a civil-list pension. This through your good influence has been done - not much money, but that is always pretty when "the children of this world" drop a curtsey to our spiritual lot. You will guess, I think, whether I feel grateful to you. Yours sincere M.P. Shiel. I was interested that the fact of the grant was a secret, until officially published, as has just been done: hence the tardiness of this expression of my thanks." Envelope slightly torn on rear from opening, very good condition overall. Item #311500
