¶ The First Edition of the First English-Nubian Dictionary. "The present volume of the Harvard African Studies is the first of a series of special monographs which has been planned for publication in addition to the regular Varia volumes, Mr. Oric Bates, the late editor of the Studies, arranged with Mr. Murray to publish the Nubian Comparative Dictionary several years before the war. The work has been completed only recently, and it has been found advisable to publish it at the Oxford University Press on account of the lack of the proper facilities for printing work of this character in the United States."
