London: John Lane, Vigo St. 1896. First Edition. Hardcover. First edition, second issue. Octavo, original plain brown cloth, spine titled in brown with brown rules boxes. Pictorial title page signed "P.W." [Paten Wilson]. 324 pp. Issued as a volume in the publisher's "Keynotes" Series. Formerly, Shiel bibliographer Reynold Morse's copy, with his "Ex-Libris RM" bookplate on the front paste-down. This second issue is in plain cloth (as opposed to the pictorial cloth of the first issue); the overall book size is slightly smaller and it was issued without a preliminary blank leaf and the contents leaf; likely a remainder issue of remaining unsold sheets. Endpapers lightly tanned but overall a near-fine copy. Near Fine. Item #311494

¶ Supernatural and weird fiction, the author's second collection of tales, including some of his most powerful work: 'Xelucha'; 'Maria in the Rose-Bush'; 'Vaila'; 'Tulsah'; 'The Serpent-Ship'; & 'Phorfor'.
