¶ Poetry collection, the 'Land of Allen' being the State of Vermont. A publication by the legendary Recluse Press, founded by W. Paul Cook in 1925. Cook was a longtime friend of H.P. Lovecraft and a prolific amateur journalist, The Recluse Press was created as a traditional private press which issued fine books written mostly by members of 'The Lovecraft Circle': Frank Belknap Long, Samuel Loveman, Donald Wandrei, Walter H. Coates and, of course, THE SHUNNED HOUSE by Lovecraft himself in 1929. Lovecraft was directly involved with The Recluse Press, typesetting and collating many of the books, as well as editing and contributing a foreword to John Ravenor Bullens collection of verse WHITE FIRE (1927) and ghostwriting the preface (under Frank Belknap Long's name) for OLD WORLD FOOTPRINTS by Mrs. William B. Symmes (Long's aunt). Walter J. Coates was the editor of DRIFTWIND, an amateur magazine, Lovecraft was honourary editor from 1935 until his death in 1937.
