Octavo, original brown cloth stamped in blind, titled and decorated gilt on spine panel. Page edges dyed red, brown coated endpapers, title page printed in black & red. 461 pp + 16 pp publisher's catalogue, dated October, 1862, bound in at rear. Lovely fresh copy, nearly fine, certainly bright and very pleasing. ¶ The author's first book, a collection of essays which argues that women should consider careers outside of the domestic realm, particularly writing. The last chapter, "Lights among the Shadows of Our Civil War" concerns the American Civil War (1861-1865) and is almost 100 pages long.

To USA: Priority Mail is $15.50 for one book, $6.50 each additional book;
Overseas: International Air Mail Post is $35.00 for one book, $18.00 each additional book.

Oversized and sets are shipped at cost by whatever method you choose at the time of your order. Excessive shipping amounts will be quoted prior to processing an order.
For International orders, we will always use the least expensive form of Air Mail shipping, and we will notify the customer of any shipping costs which are excessive.

For time-sensitive orders or particularly valuable items, we can always ship Express at cost.

Refunds

We will graciously accept returns of merchandise for any reason, provided that we are informed of the return within 10 days of receipt. All our books are collated and guaranteed to be complete as issued unless otherwise stated.
