Original typescript by Susan Wood for a review of the book THE CLEWISTON TEST by Kate Wilhelm. Two pages, approx 850 words. Original; ribbon copy with corrections in ink by Wood. Accompanied by the original carbon copies, also with some corrections. Presumably published somewhere, but we do not know where. About fine condition. ¶ Susan Joan Wood (August 22, 1948 - November 12, 1980, Canadian author, critic, and science fiction fan. She received three Hugo Awards for Best Fan Writer, in 1 9 7 4 , 1 977, and 1981.

1st edition. The special Susan Wood issue of ROOM OF ONE'S OWN, issued posthumously after Susan's death on November 11th, 1980. Octavo, original pictorial wrappers.152 pp. Edited and with an Editorial introduction by Wood, with contributions from Je ssica Amanda Salmonson, Elinor Busby, Jayge Carr, Eileen Kernaghan and others. Illustrated with a section of photographs of Women in SF, plus several drwings including one by Victoria Poyser illustrating Keraghan's story THIERAS. Accompanyi n g t h e b o ok are two letters by Poyser to Wood discussing her contribution. The first letter, dated Feb 12, states "Dear Susan, I read in Locus that you need graphics for the issue of "Room of One's Own"... the second, dated Feb 29th, states " Il lu s tr at in g t he fantasy story about the woman sorcerer sounds ideal". Both letters ae on Pyser's self-illustrated letterhead depicting a stylized version of herself playing a flute with a dragon's head. Also included is Poyser's business car d, be ari ng the s ame im age. Kernaghan has signed her story in ink. The book is near-fine, the letters have small creases and folds but are very nioce, the card is fine. A unique grouping, the letters came from Woods estate upon her death. M ost of Woo ds' mat eria l p erta inin g to the publication of this issue are held at UBC special collections.

A bit of a form letter, addressed: Dear Publisher, and requesting copies of books for review, as she had just been sel ected to write the "Year in Review" articles for Terry Carr's YEAR'S FINEST FANTASY Series. Accompanied by 17 pages, all carbon copies of letters sent to specific publishers requesting specific fantasy books for review, all unsigned.
