Reprint. Octavo, original brown cloth decorated and titled in black and gold on spine and front panel. 646 pp. Two plates, both serving as frontispieces. Preliminary blank leaf neatly excised, inner hinges neatly repaired, minor rubbing to the cloth at corners. A very bright, clean copy. ¶ An important Gothic novel, first published by The Minerva Press in 1796. 'The Children of the Abbey' was one of the period’s most popular novels.
